MERI AMBER IS A GEEK POP SINGER-SONGWRITER. THINK LASERS, KAZOOS AND NINJA STYLE WORLD DOMINATION
About Meri Amber
Meri Amber is a geek pop singer-songwriter. Think lasers, kazoos and ninja style world domination. Her sound can be likened to a mesh of bright pop with a smidgen of 90s punk rock stirred in. Topped off with a generous sprinkling of pop culture samples and computer game synths.
She’s performed at events as varied as comic conventions, to shows alongside puppets, magicians and medieval swordsmen. Doing pre-show foyer entertainment for acts like the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular and Flight of The Conchords.
How did you find your way onto The8App?
The 8 App was suggested to me by my long time Google+ friends Jedi Bret and John Voshell.
Why did you join?
Initially, I just wanted to give it a go and look around because it was suggested to me by my Google+ friends. It seemed like a real good place to connect with people and share my music, so I stuck around! The community on The 8 App has really been nothing but lovely, supportive and engaged.
If you had a friend who was interested in joining The8App what would you say to them, how would you inspire them?
I would tell them to give it a go and show them around some of the features I like! I’d probably inspire them by letting them know that they can earn money from their content. And give it to charity through the app.
Honestly, if someone uses The 8 App, they’ll be inspired in no time just through seeing all the creative things people are already doing on there.
What is your favorite 8App feature?
I’m a big fan of the stories feature. You can not only post to your page but create collections as stories too, which is awesome for single releases, album releases, photo collections and more. It often makes a lot more sense to see the entire concept behind a song (which is a story within itself) or an album when you see all the visuals, media, lyrics etc. together.
I’m really proud of my Back To Us story. You can get a real feel for the song through the video stills, lyrics, cover art etc. all coming together. It’s more like you’re able to move into the “world” of the song.
What do you see as the future of social media?
I see social media as remaining an integral part of our lives. People crave connection and social media is a convenient and engaging way to get this connection.
My hope is that, through the 8 App, people will be properly compensated for the content they create and that this compensation can, at least partly, be used to assist people in less fortunate situations.
What is the message that you take away from The8app?
Our ability to create, connect and share is valuable. It is both empowering and inspiring to be a part of a community that shares this belief and celebrates the work of creators from all walks of life!
